The money will be used to raise a new production facility and refurbish the plant.

In November 2016, the management of British American Tobacco (BAT) announced that it will invest around 21 million Euros annually in the development of the Ploiesti plant for a period of five years.

The increase in investments is due to the expansion of production capacity on the background of three important factors: the gradual closure of the German plant, the taking over of Bulgartabac in Bulgaria, with part of the volumes to be relocated to Ploiesti, and the optimization of the volumes of BAT plants in Western Europe, Including the Romanian factory.

As a result of the development of the Ploiesti production unit, 120 new jobs will be created by the end of the year, of which 90 were already occupied. At present, about 700 employees and 150 contractors work in the production unit in Ploiesti.

Investments will also be reflected in the volumes produced, which will increase by about 30%. At the same time, the number of countries to which British American Tobacco products from Ploiesti factory are delivered will increase from 35 to 40 countries.

"We want to continue investing in Romania and we hope that the Romanian Government will ensure the legislative and fiscal predictability and the necessary political stability. We underline again that one of the prerequisites for sustainable economic growth is the ongoing dialogue between authorities and business", said Gemma Webb, CEO of British American Tobacco Romania.

The British American Tobacco plant in Ploiesti is currently the second largest plant in Europe, and one of the most technologically advanced and most well-developed production units in the world. With new volumes, the British American Tobacco plant in Ploiesti will become one of the world's top five most important BAT units. (source: zf.ro)
