The logistics centre in Moldova represents an optimization factor for the logistics flux and of the regional distribution for Penny Market.

“It is a very important moment for the entire business of REWE in Romania. The project is part of the distribution network development strategy of Penny Market nationwide and adds to the other existing centres in Turda and Bucharest. With the inauguration of the logistics centre in Bacău, approximately 150 permanent jobs will be created in the first phase.”, has declared Daniel Gross, Managing Director REWE Romania.

Developed by KÉSZ Holding Zrt., Cluj-Napoca branch, the logistics complex has a total built area of nearly 19,000 sq.m, 14.5 m of height and a plot of nearly 8 hectares.

According to Penny, the modern technological solutions implemented for the complex have as a goal the reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The region of Moldova was avoided by now by the retailers’ logistics investments but such intentions for the next years were also announced by Kaufland, which will also expand to the Republic of Moldova and by Profi, which announced an aggressive expansion nationwide, intending to reach 500 units this year.

The German group opened its first store on the local market in 2005 and is also operating in Romania 8 XXL Mega Discount stores, apart from the 175 Penny Market.

Rewe România has registered last year the biggest turnover growth from the five markets where the German group Rewe is present, of 13.8 pct. In 2014, Rewe România had EUR 524 million turnover and a net profit of EUR 2.5 million.

In the end of 2015, the shareholders decided that the group’s activity to focus in the future on the discount business development, following the sale of the Billa supermarkets to Carrefour group. (source: profit.ro)
