According to Ros, Nokia’s business in Romania is based on three strategic pillars – the research & development centre, the global centre for network operations, and the global hub strategic pillar.

Nokia plans to place its entire operations in Romania under the same roof, on the platform of a former plant in Timisoara. 1,600 employees, around half of whom are involved in R&D projects, and 3,000 square metres of laboratory equipment will be transferred to the new location by the end of next year.

We are mainly talking about the operations of Alcatel-Lucent Romania, a company that ended up under the aegis of Finland’s Nokia after the latter took over the French telecom equipment group. The company’s operations are overwhelmingly located in Timisoara. Alcatel-Lucent Romania offers full landline and wireless network services, from network design and architecture to installing and operating IP, optical, mobile, and fixed networks, software design networks, virtualisation and cloud based services. Likewise, a great part of the company’s operations consists of research & development, analytics and applications.

Last year, the company hired over 100 employees in Romania, and it currently has 1,600 employees and 150 students involved in internships. Another 250 jobs are offered through subcontractors. Nokia Romania has partnerships with 7 educational institutions in Romania, including universities in Timisoara and Bucharest.

In 2014, Alcatel-Lucent Romania had a turnover of RON 361.58 M, revenues of RON 470 M, a net profit of RON 20.2 M, and 1,265 employees. (source: nineoclock.ro)
