The road should have reopened in December, according to the initial deadline announced by Romania’s National Highways Company CNADNR. Authorities have set the new deadline together with the segment’s constructor, according to CNADNR representatives, who failed to offer any explanations for the delay, reports local Wall-street.ro.

A segment of 200 meters of the Sibiu-Orastie highway, which was opened in November 2014, was demolished and needs to be completely rebuilt. The Italian constructor Salini Impregilo will pay the costs, according to CNADNR.

The first problems appeared just a couple of months after the inauguration, when the first cracks in the pavement appeared. The highways company initially said the cracks were superficial and tried to cover them up. However, the rift continued to widen, signalling structural problems. (source: Romania-insider.com)
