The plants, to be opened in the coming months, will be the biggest in Europe for their category and are expected to reach their full capacity at the beginning 2017.
The Group’s Slatina factory started its manufacturing activity back in 1973 with production of energy cables and introduced the first module for the production of optical fibre cables for backbone and access networks in 2009. The Prysmian Group invested in the factory in two stages, between 2013-2014, and will invest another EUR 22 million in the production capacity. The first investment increased the total yearly production capacity for optical cables to almost 4,500,000 fkm. The new investment is projected to increase the factory’s production to 8,000,000 fkm.
“With a manufacturing history of almost 140 years, Prysmian Group is one of the largest cable companies in Eastern Europe with six production units based in Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Czech Republic” Francesco Fanciulli, CEO Prysmian Group Central Eastern Europe stated. “It is extremely significant that two centres of excellence in Europe for the production of telecom cables are located in Eastern Europe.
