The 747 km of highways only represent 4.2 pct. of the total national roads in Romania, according to INS data.

 

Though the total highway network length mentioned by INS also include the 3rd segment of Sibiu-Orăștie Highway, with a length of 22 km, inaugurated in November 2014 and closed in September 2015, due to serious deficiencies.

 

Compared to 2014, the number of national roads which are dirt roads stayed unchanged, while 173 km of county roads and 142 km of village roads were asphalted last year.

 

Overall, nearly 38 pct. of the total public roads network in Romania, meaning 32,303 km, are stone and dirt roads.

 

Modernized roads represent 38 pct. of the total, meaning 32,641 km. According to INS data, last year 385 km of national roads were modernized, together with 1,495 km of county roads and 521 of village roads. (source: profit.ro)
