Hunedoara will soon host a new factory specializing in the production of plastic components for the automotive industry, a significant investment expected to boost the local economy. According to the Hunedoara City Hall, construction will commence on a plot of land located at the city’s entrance towards Sântuhalm, near the border with Cristur. The project is being developed by Schieffer Industries, which has already handed over the site to the contractor.
The new factory will cover a total area of 17,750 square meters, of which 3,367 square meters will be allocated to the production hall and necessary annexes. This project represents a key investment in diversifying Hunedoara’s economy, a city deeply affected by the closure of its former steel plant.
Construction is scheduled for completion by the fall of this year, with production set to begin no later than the end of 2025. Initially, the factory will create 40 jobs, with plans for further expansion, potentially doubling the number of employees and highlighting the project’s growth potential.
The Mayor of Hunedoara, Dan Bobouțanu, emphasized the importance of the project, noting that although 40 jobs may seem modest initially, such small and medium-sized investments contribute significantly to the flexibility of the local economy. “We can no longer imagine having an economic unit with 20,000 employees, like the former steel plant in the 1990s. We prefer to have such investments that can quickly adapt to the real economy’s demands,” said the mayor.
