The Romanian industrial turnover in the first nine months, for both domestic and foreign markets, has increased by 8.9%. The growth was registered mainly due to the increase in the manufacturing industry – up 9% and the mining and quarrying sector – up 7.6%, according to data from the National Statistics Institute INS.
The Romanian economy has only three small and medium companies active in the manufacturing area per 1,000 inhabitants, while trade companies are three times more numerous, which shows that local business cannot surpass the survival stage with only companies which do not bring VAT.
The local tire market, which includes both the summer and the winter tire sales, was estimated at 2 million units last year, and gained some 20% this year, according to Alina Mihaescu, marketing director of Goodyear Dunlop CSEE, quoted by Wall-Street.ro.
Swiss cement producer Holcim increased its sales in Romania by 4.3% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period of 2013, but the cement price declined by 1.1% in the same period, according to the group’s report.
Romanian car brand Dacia increased its market share in Europe by 0.2% year-on-year in the third quarter, to 2.4%, and remains the brand with the highest growth on the European auto market, contributing to the 6.7% increase in the revenue of French Renault, Dacia’s owner.
Almost seven years after taking over Automobile Craiova, the company maintains its goal of producing 200,000 vehicles per year. In 2014 Ford will produce 60,000 B-Max units in Craiova, but the company is prepared to introduce a second type of auto vehicle in order to boost its annual production.
Electromagnetica, one of Romania’s largest producer of LED lighting equipment, has recently entered new foreign markets and plans to expand LED lighting system export to Morocco, France, Spain, Germany and Colombia, according to the company’s general manager Eugen Scheusan, cited by local Agerpres.
Industrial production prices went down by 1.4% in the Eurozone and by 1.5% in the EU, in August 2014, compared to the same period in 2013, with the only increases recorded in Romania, Latvia and Sweden, show the data released on Thursday by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).
