Bucharest and Arges, Timis, Arad, and Brasov Counties covered almost half (47.3 percent) of overall EUR 23.71 billion in Romanian exports in the first half of the year, while Giurgiu and Gorj only cumulated 0.29 percent with external deliveries of EUR 68.38 billion, data provided by the Ministry of Economy shows. The capital city is the largest provider with EUR 4.45 billion in exports in the first quarter, 19.22 percent higher than in the same period last year, indicative of a better dynamic than in 2012 compared to 2011 of 5.3 percent.
Exports carried out by Bucharest companies amounted to 18.8 percent of the total. In the first half of the year, Romania exported products worth EUR 23.71 billion, 5.92 percent more than in the same period in 2012. Export products on high demand in Bucharest were machines and appliances, electrical equipment and related parts (28.5 percent), chemical industry products (15.1 percent), common metals (9.8 percent), and mineral products (9.6 percent).
Bucharest is followed by Arges County in this ranking, with exports of EUR 2.6 billion (10.97 percent of the total), on the rise by 12.38 percent, focusing particularly on Dacia sales abroad. Vehicles, airplanes, ships and auxiliary transport equipment covered 67.5 percent of county level exports.
Other counties with significant contributions to the export industry include Timis County with EUR 1.85 billion (7.84 percent of the total, 11 percent lower), Arad County with EUR 1.17 billion (4.94 percent of the total, 5.6 percent higher), and Brasov County, with EUR 1.12 billion (4.75 percent, 12.6 percent higher). In Constanta County, exported goods amounted to EUR 1.03 billion (4.36 percent, 15 percent lower), while in Sibiu the value reached EUR 1 billion (4.22 percent of the total, 8.2 percent higher). Bihor reported EUR 918.9 million in exports (3.88 percent of the total, 11.8 percent lower), while Dolj reported EUR 718.4 million (3 percent and 7.1 percent higher).
The following counties were positioned in the middle section of the ranking: Hunedoara – EUR 343.15 million (1.45 percent of the total, 22.3 percent higher), Bistrita Nasaud – EUR 308.62 million (1.3 percent, 11.1 percent higher), and Dambovita – EUR 288.99 million (1.22 percent of the total, 17.1 percent lower).
The lowest contributions to the export industry were brought by Mehedinti County, with EUR 60.65 million in exported goods (0.26 percent of the total and 25 percent lower), Giurgiu County – EUR 40.6 million (0.17 percent of the total and 35 percent lower), and Gorj County – EUR 27.75 million (0.12 percent of the total, 9.6 percent higher). Other examples include Vaslui with EUR 67.13 million (0.28 percent of the total, 23.75 percent lower), Teleorman – EUR 71.18 million (0.3 percent, 11.76 percent lower), Vrancea – EUR 90.9 million (0.38 percent, 14.5 percent higher), Ialomita – EUR 91.5 million (0.39 percent, 9.88 percent higher), Caras Severin – EUR 104.07 million (0.44 percent of the total, 0.42 percent higher), Braila – EUR 128.36 million (0.54 percent, 9.54 percent lower), and Valcea – EUR 135.17 million (0.57 percent of the total, 29.8 percent lower).
As far imports go, Bucharest and Arges are still the two highest ranking counties, followed by Ilfov, Timis, and Prahova. The capital city and the four other counties combined attracted over half (54.86 percent) of overall EUR 26.26 million in imports in the first quarter, which indicates a 2.72 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2012.
