In February 2014 compared with January 2014, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 0.4 per cent in the euro area (EA18) - Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland - and by 0.5 per cent in the EU28 - Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom, according to the same estimates.
The 0.4 per cent increase in the volume of retail trade in the euro area in February 2014, compared with January 2014, is due to rises of 0.8 per cent for the non-food sector and of 0.3 per cent for food, drinks and tobacco, while automotive fuel fell by 0.8 per cent. In the EU28, the 0.5 per cent increase in retail trade is due to rises of 0.8 per cent for the non-food sector and of 0.6 per cent for food, drinks and tobacco, while automotive fuel fell by 0.7 per cent.
In February 2014 compared with February 2013 the retail sales index increased by 0.8 per cent in the euro area and by 1.5 per cent in the EU28. Also in these terms, Romania is again among the first in the EU, with an 8.7-per cent increase, behind only Bulgaria (9.2 per cent) and Luxembourg (12.8 per cent). According to Eurostat, in the EU28, the 1.5 per cent increase in retail trade is due to rises of 2.9 per cent for the non-food sector, of 0.8 per cent for automotive fuel and of 0.3 per cent for food, drinks and tobacco.
Data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) indicate that the volume of retail trade in Romania (with the exception of trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) advanced in February 2014 on a monthly basis, both in unadjusted terms and in seasonally adjusted terms, by 1.9 per cent and 1.3 per cent, respectively. Compared with the same month of the year before, retail trade was up 8.7 per cent in unadjusted terms and 7.5 per cent in seasonally adjusted terms. (Sursa: actmedia.eu)
