This year Lactalis purchased two of its biggest competitors on the Romanian market – Albalact and Covalact. After completing the first transaction, the company will reach an EUR 182.3 turnover (RON 820 million), Profit.ro reports.
The company will therefore control almost a quarter of the local dairy market, and is followed by French company Danone, which reported an EUR 107.5 million (RON 484 million) turnover. Together, the two companies control over 36 percent of the local dairy market.
According to results posted in 2015, Dutch-owned Friesland Campina (Napolact) comes next, with RON 394 turnover, followed by Greek capital company Olympus with RON 338 million and Hochland RON 216 million.
The only Romanian dairy producer with more than RON 100 million turnover is Simultan Timis, which posted a turnover of RON 143.9 million. Simultan Timis is owned by the Herbai family.
