Construction on the site began in April on the 3,400 sqm operational hub, which DHL will use to manage its growing business in the Central European countries.

“Building a distribution hub on the grounds of a large airport presents some unique operational and security challenges,“ said Peter Bečár, Managing Director Czech Republic and Slovakia for P3. “P3’s BTS teams are very experienced in tailoring buildings to customers’ needs and were able to rise to these challenges with strong support from the client, Bratislava Airport, Ingsteel (the general contractor), the mayor and the municipality.”

The facility, which features a fully automated parcel sorting and handling system is scheduled for completion by late summer. It will have direct access to the tarmac at Bratislava Airport, while its location is just 500 meters from the motorways that link Slovakia with the rest of the CEE region and Austria.

The hub will more than double DHL Express’s handling capacity in Bratislava. This extra capacity will be used to serve Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic and as a transit hub for the Balkans. (source: cijjournal.com)
