The warehouse has an area of 23,000 m2, a height of 13.7 m and a large area for reception and dispatch with a height of 6.5 m and a space with a controlled temperature of 8,600 m2.
The construction work lasted nine months and was completed in October 2021. The warehouse is one of the best in the REWE Group. It has over 1,200 photovoltaic panels with an installed capacity of 650kWp, charging stations for electric cars and a centralized monitoring system for thermal and electrical consumption integrated into the central system in Vienna. At the same time, it serves about 50 stores, which means faster deliveries, fresher products and lower CO2 emissions.
The construction was conceived from the beginning as a sustainable building, energy efficient, with energy from renewable sources, with very low water consumption and with special attention to the comfort, safety and health of the people who use the building. The impact on the environment was carefully monitored and reduced during the construction site and subsequently mitigated by plantings and other measures to support biodiversity. Lower carbon footprint and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) materials were chosen, and the site had a long set of requirements to follow the same principles of reducing resource consumption, worker safety and health, and impact. on the environment as little as possible. An extensive team of over 130 people was needed to build the warehouse, which was joined by Wincon and Oopy Arhitectura partners.
"Sustainability is a constant concern in everything we do at PENNY, it is the way we think and build our buildings, as well as our projects and development plans. For us, BREEAM certifications represent not only the confirmation of a successful expansion strategy, but also the proof of the high attention we pay to sustainability in our business. In recent years, we have invested more and more in sustainability projects and tested and implemented environmentally friendly solutions in newly opened stores, ”said Daniel Gross, CEO of PENNY Romania.
