The Transport Ministry has remitted to the European Commission the revised Transport Master Plan that includes all observations and comments. The European authorities currently have in their possession the accepted form of the document, which entails development projects worth a total of EUR 43.5 bln in all transport sectors.
According to the strategic document for the development of Romania’s transport infrastructure and services in 2015-2030, over 1,200 kilometres of highway and 1,900 kilometres of expressways, Transregio and Transeuro roads, and beltways will be built, the road infrastructure development projects having a total value of over EUR 26 bln. Highway projects are estimated to cost EUR 13.254 bln.
In the railway sector, the document entails the upgrading of over 4,000 kilometres of railways, the purchasing of new rolling stock and the introduction of railway services in order to boost this sector’s activity, projects whose cost totals approximately EUR 14 bln. The cost of railway rehabilitation projects is estimated at EUR 10.073 bln, while that of railway electrification projects is estimated at EUR 1.122 bln.
In the naval sector, the document entails the improvement of navigation on the Danube and on its navigable channels for a distance of 670 kilometres, and the modernization of 32 ports. The total value of investments in this sector stands at EUR 2 bln.
In the air transport and multimodal sectors, the master plan has identified 15 airports that will benefit from modernization and capacity-hiking projects, namely the development of 11 multimodal terminals located in areas of high connectivity and economic potential, the projects’ value being estimated at EUR 1.6 bln.
According to Robert Dobre, superior advisor within the Transport Ministry, the European Commission has recently pointed out for the first time that it no longer has any comments to make on the Transport Master Plan, a document that is currently in Brussels. (source: nineoclock.ro)
